April is Alcohol Awareness Month! All Illinois students in grades 6 – 12 are invited to participate in the 25th Annual Alcohol Awareness Poster Contest.
“Did You Know” – great information to share with students about how alcohol harms an adolescent brain
Educating youth on the dangers of alcohol is important! Alcohol is the drug most frequently used and abused by young people, and the one that causes the most negative health consequences. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), alcohol is responsible for more than 4,300 annual deaths among underage youth, and youth aged 12 to 20 years old drink 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) shows that 37% of 12th graders, 21% of 10th graders, and 6% of 8th graders have been drunk at least once in the past year.
